iPhone 7S Leaks Reveal Apple's Expensive Smartphone
The iPhone is changing. 2017 marks the 10th anniversary of the world’s best selling smartphone and Apple AAPL -0.14% is planning a major (if expensive) redesign. Now we know a lot more…
As a tonic to the triple confirmation that Apple’s flagship iPhone will be delayed, there is now better news because a further three independent leaks have revealed exciting and - most importantly - consistent details which show this is a device worth waiting for.
Interestingly two of the leaks are detailed schematics. The first (simultaneously obtained by reliable veteran OnLeaks and prolific newcomer Benjamin Geskin)
shows a design entirely in keeping with everything we have heard so
far: vertical dual camera arrangement, home button removed, both the
front facing camera and Touch ID integrated under the main display, no
return for the headphone jack and the introduction of wireless charging
(the circular component).
This was soon corroborated by a far
more detailed schematic from the endless Apple treasure trove that is
Weibo. Again wireless charging is at the heart of the design and OnLeaks
found perfect alignment between the two diagrams, while Geskin illustrated how the schematics fit perfectly into the render he had previously created:
Lastly adding further credibility to these leaks is none other than Elad Dubzinski, CEO of wireless power giant Powermat. In an official press release
discussing the growth of wireless charging he let slip: “wireless
charging will become a standard feature in the next iPhone, [so] we are
finally at the threshold of mainstream adoption.”
All of which means we may finally be able to banish fears of Apple’s modest Plan B iPhone backup.
Companies will always prepare multiple test versions of a device, but
with this year being the 10th anniversary it seems Apple has adopted a
strategy of no compromise and will simply swallow the delay.
Of course what the name of this all
new iPhone will be remains less clear. History says we should expect the
‘iPhone 7S’, but that may be reserved for two lesser models
while 7S, iPhone 8 and iPhone X (given there is no more ‘macOS X’) all
make little sense for a 10th anniversary device. My tips: iPhone Edition
or even ‘iPhone’.
Regardless I expect Apple to break
sales records here, as do investors judging by the company’s stock
performance. And that’s despite a massive price hike...
